These notes will enter circulation from the 10th of November. The Reserve Bank of India revealed the new denomination on the 8th of November, and this series of notes will be introduced with a completely new design. This new entry is the highest denomination of currency notes released by the RBI since January 1978, when 5,000 and 10,000-rupee notes were published. The notes are being published at Mysuru, Karnataka.
Here are the 10 things you need to know about the new 2,000-rupee notes,
- The new notes will be of the size 66mm X 166mm, smaller than the old notes, and will be available in a magenta base colour.
2. The denominational numeral 2,000 will be written in the Devnagari script and, in micro letters, RBI and 2,000 on the left side of the banknote.
3. The new note will feature a see-through register with denominational numeral 2,000, which will be visible when the currency is held against light.
4. The new denomination will see the portrait of Mahatma Gandhi at the centre.
5. To celebrate India's Mars mission, the notes will carry an image of the Mangalyaan, depicting the country's first venture into interplanetary space, and the logo and tagline of the Swachh Bharat Abhiyan. The reverse side features a motif of the Mars Orbiter Mission (MOM).
6. There will be a windowed security thread with the inscriptions ‘Bharat’ (in Devnagari), RBI and 2,000 on banknotes with colour shift. The colour of the thread changes from green to blue when the note is tilted.
7. The guarantee clause, governor's signature with promise clause and RBI emblem have been shifted to the right in the new notes, with the portrait and electrotype watermarks appearing right next to them.
8. There will be a ashoka pillar emblem to the right of the Mahatma Gandhi portrait and electrotype (2000) watermarks. It will also have seven bleed lines and a rectangle as an identifying shape; as per the RBI guidelines, these are the identification and salient features for the visually impaired.
9.According to sources, the security features of the Rs 2,000 note include latent images, coloured strip security threads and watermarks. The RBI denied the rumours of the notes being embedded with a nano GPS chip, which would have helped locate the position of the currency via a satellite.
10. There will also be a latent image with the denomination numeral that would be visible when the note is held at a 45-degree angle at eye level.

People have exchanged and deposited over Rs 5.44 lakh crore worth of scrapped Rs 500/1,000 notes at different banks+ till November 18 following demonetisation of the higher denomination currency+ .
The banks also disbursed Rs 1,03,316 crore over the counter and via ATMs between November 10 and November 18, the Reserve Bank said in a statement.
Consequent to the announcement of withdrawal of legal tender status of banknotes of Rs 500 and Rs 1000 denominations from the midnight of November 8, 2016, the RBI had made arrangements for exchange and/or deposit of such notes.
The facility was available at the counters of the Reserve Bank and commercial banks, Regional Rural banks and Urban Cooperative Banks.
"Banks have since reported that such exchange/deposits effected from November 10, 2016 up to November 18, 2016 amounted to Rs 5,44,571 crore (exchange amounted to Rs 33,006 crore and deposits amounted to Rs 5,11,565 crore).

To stop the spread of counterfeit notes, which is aiding terror activities from across the border, and flush out black money, the government has decided to scrap the notes of Rs. 500 and Rs. 1000, Prime Minister Narendra Modi said on Tuesday. Starting midnight, these notes will only be "worth the paper they are printed on," he said.
A proposal for new 500 and 2,000 rupee notes has been cleared by the Reserve Bank of India.
There will be no change in any other form of monetary exchange -- cheque, DD, payment via credit or debit cards, he said.

WhatsApp is testing video calling feature in its app. Although the feature is in beta mode and available only for Windows Phone for now, iPhone and Android users may also get the feature soon.
The feature was first spotted by a Spanish website, which reported that a few beta testers were seeing video calling option in their Windows handsets. The user is given two options when pressing the call button in the app: voice and video calls. While the voice calling is already available in the app, the video calling enables the users to view the video of the person he or she has called via chat app. The option to change from front camera to rear camera is also available. User can even mute the call and will also be notified in case they have a missed call.

iPhone maker Foxconn is likely to begin manufacturing mobile phones from its second India factory near Mumbai from August.
Taiwan-based Foxconn, which makes iPhone, iPad and other Apple products, will initially make mobile phones at a 2 lakh square feet facility in Navi Mumbai and later laptops and computers, said Apurva Chandra, Principal Secretary – Industries, Maharashtra government.
“Foxconn has taken a rented premise in Navi Mumbai. They have taken 2 lakh square feet. They have (set up) their mobile manufacturing facility (there). And probably, as we are told, first week of August they are going to launch mobiles from this facility,” he said.
Foxconn had recently announced plans to make India a key global manufacturing hub for servicing markets across Africa and West Asia.
Chandra said Foxconn has indicated plans to start with manufacturing mobile phones and later laptops and computers.
“Mobile manufacturing will begin in August then they are going to manufacture laptops and computers,” he said adding a mobile assembly can be set up in 6-8 months.
Foxconn had last year started assembling smartphones for Chinese firm Xiaomi at its facility in Sri City, an industrial park in Chittoor district of Andhra Pradesh.
In August last year, Foxconn Chairman and CEO Terry Gou announced plans to invest in India across verticals like manufacturing, startups, energy and e-commerce portals and was also looking at bringing supply chain companies and major technologies.
He had then said that Foxconn may build as many as 12 factories in India by 2020 to manufacture LED TVs, batteries and other electronics products. It has been looking at potential sites in Gujarat, Karnataka, Andhra Pradesh and Maharashtra.
Foxconn currently manufactures in Chinese factories. Plans to set up manufacturing units in India, the nation with second-highest number of mobile phone accounts behind China, are seen as move to mitigate rising labour costs in China and lower manufacturing cost of iPhones.
Last year, Adani Group had stated that it was in talks with Foxconn to form a joint venture. This joint venture could be for manufacturing iPhones in India at Adani’s SEZ in Mundra, Gujarat.
The Taiwan-based firm, which manufactures for a host of global device brands like Apple, BlackBerry, Amazon, Motorola, Xiaomi and Sony, has the bulk of its factories in China.
But it also has plants in Asia, Europe, Brazil and Mexico which together assemble about 40 per cent of all consumer electronics products sold globally. It has 12 factories in nine Chinese cities, the most in any country.
